The Gospel: is the Reformation over?
Mark Noll is a leading Evangelical historian and analyst of trends. In 2005, he co-authored a book entitled, ‘Is the Reformation Over? ’ His question arises from a remarkable volte-face in relations that has occurred between Evangelicals and Catholics in the last thirty years or so. From the 1520s until the 1950s, relationships between Catholics and Evangelicals were virtually non-existent . Each viewed the other with suspicion, antagonism and fear. However, since the late fifties the landscape of E-C relations has changed almost beyond recognition; reservation, repugnance even rancour has given way to rapprochement .
I hope to outline some of the reasons for this change (largely dependent on Noll’s book though the points are fairly obvious); consider Roman Catholic beliefs and show how they are inimical with the gospel; and make some observations regarding Evangelical and Catholic engagement.

About John
Hi there - I am a member of Greenview and have been for over 20 years. For a number of these years I functioned as an elder, however, indifferent health forced me to take more of a back seat. I see this as an opportunity to do a little writing, often focussing on issues that are a matter of evangelical debate today. Naturally the views expressed are my own and may not reflect the views of the elders or church at large, though differences are likely to be in the detail and not the substance.
These articles and sermons were written partly to clarify my own thoughts and partly with the intention of provoking thought in others who may read them. If you read one I hope you find it stimulating. Please feel free to give me feedback or discuss my articles in the forums.
