The Judgements


Ch 4 brings us to a new section in Revelation. The
beginning of a new vision.

It is a throwback to Ch 1 v19 where John is told by the
risen Lord of History and the church

Ch 4 - 22 is dealing with these future events. End time
events. Events that will bring history to a conclusion.


Throughout the whole of the bible there are references
to end time events, events that relate in one way or
another to the Second Coming of Christ, to what is
referred to frequently as ‘the Day of the Lord’. The
‘Day’ when the Lord will show Himself once and for
ever to be Lord of History, Lord of Time.


Here in Revelation 4-22 these events find their final
form in God’s Word as Jesus gives to John in images
drawn from OT prophecies God’s final communiqué
concerning the end of the world.


Traditionally these chapters have excited a lot of
debate.


· Some see the events described here as being fulfilled
in the lives of first century Christians - the Christians
to whom John immediately writes.


· Others see these ‘end time’ events as referring to the
whole period between the First and Second Coming
of Christ.


· Still others insist they refer exclusively to that period
in history just immediately prior to the Second
Coming of Jesus.


The answer seems to me, if I may nail my colours
firmly to the fence, to lie in all three.
