Sermon: Rev 19 Two Feasts

Rev 19

Two Feasts

When you think of God and when you reflect on who
He is and what He is doing in the world how do you
respond? Well if Revelation teaches us anything it
teaches us that the proper response to anything that God
reveals of Himself and of His plans is worship. In fact
to say proper response is rather poor language for it
suggests something mechanical, a response that is
perhaps mere duty but worship is never merely a duty it
is a delight, a joy – the overflow of a heart utterly
amazed and overwhelmed by what it has seen.

That is certainly the worship that fills heaven in the
opening verses of this chapter. As heaven views the
destruction of Babylon that great city of man set up in
opposition to God it worships the one who has done it.

Read vv 1, 2

It is worship evoked by God’s proper judgement of
evil. In vv 6,7 there is more worship - this time it is
worship stirred of God’s grace to his people.

The highest delight of the human heart, the most
elevated occupation of the human mind, the most
fulfilling use of the human spirit is the worship of God.
Who He is and what He does will always arouse right
thinking people to worship.

About John

Hi there - I am a member of Greenview and have been for over 20 years. For a number of these years I functioned as an elder, however, indifferent health forced me to take more of a back seat. I see this as an opportunity to do a little writing, often focussing on issues that are a matter of evangelical debate today. Naturally the views expressed are my own and may not reflect the views of the elders or church at large, though differences are likely to be in the detail and not the substance.

These articles and sermons were written partly to clarify my own thoughts and partly with the intention of provoking thought in others who may read them. If you read one I hope you find it stimulating. Please feel free to give me feedback or discuss my articles in the forums.
