Resisting the Lie


The Bible speaks of the time of the Anti-Christ as a time when God will,
‘send a strong delusion’ so that men will ‘believe a lie’ (2 Thess 2:11). John
in his first letter reminds us that the lie of the antichrist was at work even in
the C1 church (1 Jn 4:3). The Lord Jesus warns his disciples that false
Christs and false prophets will arise so enchanting they could deceive ‘even
the elect if such a thing were possible’ (Matt 24:24). Then he effectively
says – ‘you have been warned’ (Matt 24:25). The history of the Christian
Church gives ample witness to the prescience of these words.


‘The Lie’ is always ‘out there’ luring us to our destruction. Today, its
mesmeric power is as persuasive as ever, if not more so. Let me suggest
one particular form of 'the lie' current today and its suggestions to our minds.
